Reduce Energy Costs
As your heating and cooling system ages, it can lose its ability to cool or heat your home. If your current heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old; or your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old, it may be time to replace it with a more efficient system. Inadequate insulation or equipment installation may be the cause of temperature changes from room to room.

Your new system can help keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter while saving you money on energy bills. Let the professionals at California Cool, Inc. help you determine if your current system needs replacing.Replacing your current equipment with an ENERGY STAR® rated heating and cooling systems can help reduce high energy costs as much as 10-30%.*

It is recommended to replace air filter at least 4 times a year: The most important and crucial tip is replacement or cleaning of the air filter. Forced air system work by exchanging the air temperature in the home from cool air to warm and warm air to cool air. The indoor air has to pass though the A/C system freely in order to change its temperature. A dirty air filter does not let the right amount of air to pass and that affects the efficiency dramatically. Dirty air filter can also damage parts in the condenser unit and furnace.

Remove Clutter from around the Furnace of Blower Coil: Items stored near the furnace are fire hazards. They may also obstruct combustion air supply. This could cause complete combustion and the production of carbon monoxide gas. Your furnace or blower coil could be located in a closet, attic or basement. Removing clutter applies to your equipment no matter where it is located.

Check the vent pip connections; there should be no opening or cracks in the pipe.

Keep return registers/grilles clear of obstructions: The return register/grille must remain free of obstructions such as furniture, lint, dust or pet hair for the system to operate properly.

The condensing unit (out door unit) should be cleaned about once a year. Simply turn all power off and wash coil with water (if coli does not get clean, a solution should be used by a professional). Make sure you dry the unit completely before using. Keeping the condenser unit in a shaded area will help improve in its efficiency and prolong the life of the unit.

Do not store anything on the condenser or against the condenser coil. That will harm the unit when it is operating.

If your condensing unit does not turn on the first thing is to check is your circuit breaker. Turn the thermostat to the off position. Locate the circuit breaker for the unit and turn it off and back on. Then turn the thermostat on. If unit does not run call a professional.

Trim Brush near out door unit to prevent airflow obstruction. Air flow abstraction will effect the efficiency of the unit.

Choose a higher efficiency unit for greater savings.
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is a measure of efficiency for air conditioners. SEER ratings are like miles per gallon in cars- the higher the rating, the more energy efficient the unit and the more money you save.

* Minimum efficiency established by the Department of Energy.  The majority of systems installed prior to 2006 are 10 SEER or lower.  Potential energy savings may vary depending on your lifestyle, system settings, equipment maintenance, local climate, home construction and installation of equipment and duct system.

Rebates are also available from utility companies for certain energy efficient equipment.
